A less skewed view of Proposition 8

If liberalism is a mental disorder, than this is exhibit A. The current election has brought people’s emotions to the ballot box. Liberals and conservatives are fighting for their respective views by voting. There have been heated debates, and rampant disagreements, but this is natural in a voting season. What is not natural is taking your passion that one step further and encroaching upon people’s personal property or feelings and committing a heinous heartless act. Why is it that the person to crack and resort to mischief under the cover of night, is the same person that calls themselves open minded and loving of all?

This election harbors an issue, actually a non-issue, that has brought historic amounts of monies in support and disagreement. It is basically a ploy for the government to enter into the church business. Don’t get me wrong, I hold no hatred towards same sex couples. I believe that if they love one another and are willing to spend their lives together, then so be it. I just think that this “right” to be married is a polluted script written by legislature in an attack on the churches that hold this sacrament as a holy belief. Why is the government espousing moral rhetoric? There has to be a better way to facilitate a productive life for all citizens of California, and the United States for that matter.

Since our population is changing and we are experiencing more and more same sex couples, the law and tradition must change, not the religious belief. What is wrong with the state recognizing the union of two individuals, man or woman? We only need the state to recognize that we are together and legally bound. The church is where we go to recognize our union to our respective faiths and deities by petitioning a marriage. The separation should remain as such. This would make the marriage process twofold, one part legal and one part spiritual, but so be it. If your church or spiritual organization is willing to let your union be recognized in their faith or belief system through marriage, then who are some slimy politicians to tell you the wiser. The entrance of the word marriage on capitol hill conveys the presence of religion. My morals are not dictated by my government.

When I have a problem spiritually, I do not get on my knees and pray to Arnold. I look to God. However, if I have a problem with the state of repair that our streets are in, or if I think that the budget leans to far in favor of police and fire unions, or even if I think our current foreign policy resembles a zit faced pet store employee introducing a snake into an aquarium of feeding rats, my government is the entity in which I turn. When morals enter the government, hatred is bred. This sign (pictured above) is evidence of the twisted church that the government has become. Vote yes on Proposition 8 and fight for a better solution that will benefit all citizens rather than condemning some.

Only the stupid or the evil will vote Yes on 8...so which one are you?

I agree! Keep church and state separate! People should be with whomever they choose to love, but to try and force the hand of the church is just plain wrong. Didn't we decide a long day ago that church should stay out of government? Then why is it acceptable for government to rear its ugly head into church? Our government needs to allow people the right to enter into a legal binding contract with a party of their choice and have all the equal protections that come with it. This is not a separate but equal issue. We should all have the same protections and rights, but the word marriage has religious connotations. So keep them separate. After all, a rose by any other name would still smell as sweet!

P.S. to trolleyfan...only people who know they are wrong, or children, result to name calling. So which one are you? Isn't it interesting how liberal people can be so close minded??

Well, since I know I'm right...and I'm 50...I guess that means *you're* wrong.

And only people who know they have no *real* case resort to lying to get the vote their way. Say, isn't there something against that in the Bible?

"So which one are you?"

The one who *doesn't* try to tell others what to do.

"Isn't it interesting how liberal people can be so close minded??"

Isn't it interesting how "conservatives" who claim to be for smaller government are *so* interested in having that government control people's private lives.

"I am a level headed thinking person that takes all sides into consideration."

I did - that's why I can tell the other side is either stupid or evil.

"All people can be closed minded- who knows who trolleyfan is a true fan of!"

Reality - a concept the religious are a bit fuzzy about.

"I smell a conductors hat.... and certainly some overalls. Clearly fashion challenged"

Yes - because judging people on how they *look* is wrong (both by my standards *and* by your Bible's).

Everyone, get a life - and stop screwing up other people's.

Trolleyfan...I believe you are the one being judgmental, for I have not said anything about "my Bible" and yet you are making assumptions.
I have a life, and you perhaps do not understand what I am saying because you can only see your perspective. You say you have considered both sides and realized you were right. However, in no way did I say that people should not be able to be with who they choose, nor should they not have the same rights as "everyone else". But still you decide to meet resistance with hostility.
I on the other hand, have considered both sides and have landed somewhere that I feel is neither to one extreme or the other. I truly believe that there are other avenues to achieve goals.
In no way did I imply that I want government more involved in "our" lives. This isn't an issue for government. All people should be able to as I have repeatedly said, be able to love, be loved, and protected. So the issue you are having with this is confusing me.
Just because you are 50 in no way makes you more correct. And in this matter, there is no right or wrong, it is just a matter of opinion and there will be people who feel differently than you. Okay, that is life. Handle it with dignity, especially if you "know" you are right. Some matters in life are complicated and if you want to further your cause, it would behoove you to do it in an above board, non hostile, I am right and you are wrong, manner. Especially since you are complaining of the opposition being deceptive. This is not a slam on you, this is honest advice because you weaken your position with negativity. If you truly believe you are right, then take the high road and don't result to childish name calling. That is all I am saying.
